Elmarie's Studio
Elmarie Naudé was born in Durban, but lived with her grandparent outside Williston for a short while where she lost her heart in the Karoo. Her mother, Elsa van Laere, a ceramic artist known for her traditional tribal figures was instrumental in developing Elmarie's creative soul. Although she never studied art formally, she had a natural talent that was nurtured. Her first commercial exposure was the painting of animals on ostrich eggs for a German-Namibian customer whilst working at Port Elizabeth's most prominent art gallery, Keith Johns. After getting married to Pieter Naudé, who studied fine art in Port Elizabeth, they moved to Williston. Here they started the Williston Mall together. Today Elmarie paints consignment work full-time, gives private art classes, and started the Ubuntu Community Project to benefit underprivileged children with learning disabilities. She has won multiple awards for her art, locally and nationally.
